IT would be difficult to live in the UK – or elsewhere in Europe for that matter – and not have some awareness of the power and influence exercised by our investment community. The investment profession is a particular UK strength which seeks to
employ large numbers of high calibre individuals. Its importance continues to grow irrespective of whether we are in or out of the euro, facing natural or manmade disasters or the rest of the UK economy is growing or in recession.

It is also very difficult for you, as an individual, to see how you might fit into the role of a investment professional. This guide introduces you to that role which can be in one of the traditional areas such as equities or bonds or in alternative areas such as hedge fund management. A career beginning in the investment field can also lead to other opportunities.

This is an introductory magazine and not a comprehensive guide. Its aim is to give you some feel for what might be involved in becoming an investment professional, further necessary training and where your career might lead.
